Auburn Brothers Excelling in Leadership

Chapter & Alumni News

The Fall semester started well for the Brothers of Beta Theta. They had 53 pledge and 11 initiated into the Legion of Honor. Their highest badge number is now 3118 and it belongs to Walker Shaw of Mobile. Among their pledges were two new members of Freshman Forum, a highly competitive selection for freshman leaders. Bowman Hill, son of Dr. Scott Hill, and Harrison Rudd of Dothan were selected. They were fortunate to receive excellent mentoring by Advisor John Burgess and sophomore and last-year Freshman Forum member Sam Gray. The pledge class is led by Pledge Trainer Max Hopkins, Beta Theta 3000. They also welcomed many alumni back during Homecoming weekend in the fall.
Brothers of Beta theta spent their summer learning and growing as individuals, Junior Jack Fruin of Birmingham was a summer intern with Dynasty Financial Partners in New York City, a registered investment advisor providing objective fiduciary services to wealth management by avoiding in-house investment bias. Jack was the only Auburn student selected for this 10-week program. Fruin is double majoring in biomedical sciences and finance and serves as a college of science and mathematics ambassador.

The Beta Theta Chapter has also been excelling in campus and national leadership this year. Previous Lt. Commander William Kelly serves as President of the Business School. For Student Government Association (SGA), David Beal has served this past year as a Senator of the College of Agricultural Business and Economics. Also, Bowman Hill and Harrison Rudd were members of Freshman Forum, a mentorship program connected to the SGA, with Hill also serving as a Freshman Senator.  For IFC, Carter Burleson and Scott Sturdivant have served this past year, with Burleson serving as Director of Risk Management, and Sturdivant serving as IFC Court Chairman, respectively. Several other brothers have applied for IFC cabinet for the next year as well. On a chapter level, November election results are Commander Thomas Birchfield, Lt. Commander Randall Clark, Treasurer David Beal, Recorder Sam Grey, Chaplain Samuel Ames, House Manager Hunter Chambers, and Risk Manager Will Solomon, with elections for Social Chair and Alumni Chair still to come. The chapter will be holding initiation for new brothers January 20 at Auburn United Methodist Church.
Alumnus Cody Sanders works in Washington D.C. and is a presidential writer at the white house who generally writes proclamations, head of state correspondence, and response letters on policy matters for President Donald Trump to review and sign. He hosted several undergraduates this summer and gave them a West Wing tour of the white house which included a bowling alley.
