The Legion of Honor Grows!

Last fall, the Fraternity celebrated a number of exciting milestones as the Legion of Honor marked the official return of the Gamma Theta Chapter charter to Cornell University and identified the candidates who will help restore the Gamma Sigma Chapter at Iowa State University and the Eta Kappa Chapter at San Diego State University.

Gamma Theta (Cornell)

Over the weekend of November 15-17, 2024, Gamma Theta collegiate members and alumni celebrated the chapter’s return with an alumni reception, member initiation, and rechartering banquet, all taking place at the chapter’s historic home at 230 Willard Way in Ithaca, N.Y. Gamma Theta Alumni Jeff Woodring, Greg Greene, Darren Carpizo, Gary Grossfeld, Zak Sanderson, Mark Kostrzewski, and Tom Weeks were joined by General Fraternity staff Fred Dobry (Indiana State), Mac McNeilly (Huntingdon), past staffer Ryan Ewing (Drury), and Regent Maury Gaston (Auburn) to celebrate the chapter’s return and present the chapter with the official chapter charter. Staff members Stephanie Baldwin and Kathleen Wilhite from the university’s Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life were also present to provide university remarks at the celebratory banquet. The chapter’s rechartering marks the culmination of a three-year journey to restore the Gamma Theta Chapter at Cornell.

Gamma Sigma (Iowa State)

On September 6, 2024, the Fraternity kickstarted Gamma Sigma Chapter’s return to Iowa State University’s campus with the pinning of 17 candidates, including Gamma Sigma legacy Gavin Skaggs. Eight alumni, including Gamma Sigma alums Frederick “Fritz” Raab, John Spaulding, Frank Jeffery, Glen Wazny, and Steve Skaggs, along with David Brown (Colorado State), Sheldon Hall (Central Florida) and staff members Adam Girtz (North Dakota State) and Noah Frank (Purdue) were present for the Candidate Ceremony. The ceremony was immediately followed by a celebratory dinner, and on Sunday, the group held their first meeting to lay out the plan for working towards chartering. The colony would finish the fall semester with a total of 28 candidates.

Eta Kappa (San Diego State)

On September 28, 2024,  96 candidates – one of the largest recruitment classes in San Diego State University history - participated in the Candidate Ceremony as part of the  effort to restore the Eta Kappa Chapter at SDSU. The ceremony was held at Scripps Cottage on campus—the same location where the chapter received its first charter in 1963. The Ritual team consisted of five Eta Kappa alumni: Keith Uchida, Clay Brown, Eric Quanstrom, Walter “Wally” Wallace, and Brian Folks. Joining the event were five additional alumni, including Division Commander Dino Bozonelos (Cal State San Bernardino), Chapter Advisor Trey Atkins (San Diego State), and General Fraternity staff member Chaysen Babcock (Northern Arizona). A special moment highlighted the event when Eta Kappa alumnus Wally Wallace had the once-in-a-lifetime honor of pinning his son, Tyler Wallace.

Current Expansions

Currently, the Fraternity is on the campuses of Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va., and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, as the Legion of Honor works to restore our historic Lambda and Epsilon Nu Chapters.
