In Memoriam: Jenny Hamilton
The Fraternity is sad to report the passing of longtime staff member Virginia Sue “Jenny” Hamilton, who passed on July 15, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jenny was a beloved member of the Sigma Nu staff family, providing over 40 years of dedicated service to the Legion of Honor.
Jenny first joined the General Fraternity staff on November 30, 1980, beginning her career with Sigma Nu through the Lexington High School COE business program. Initially staffed in the Headquarters’ mailroom, Jenny worked closely with past staff members Patricia C. Tolley and George Evans to print and ship thousands of communication pieces, including fundraising mailings, officer manuals, and The Delta magazine. She also served at that time as the Fraternity’s only engraver, hand-engraving the initials of each brother on the badge they would receive after initiation.
In 1988, Jenny moved to the Fraternity’s accounting department, where she served for most of her career. Though Jenny’s responsibilities changed from time to time – overseeing records, monitoring phone lines at the Headquarters’ reception desk, selling merchandise at Grand Chapter, and managing accounts receivable – her personality, positive attitude, and work ethic always shined through with the collegiate members, alumni, and fellow staff she encountered.
The General Fraternity will deeply miss our staff family member. She will forever be remembered as a true and faithful servant of the Legion of Honor.
