Campus Snapshot: Located in the rapidly-growing capital of Raleigh, NCSU is one of the state's two land-grant institutions and boasts the largest enrollment of any school in North Carolina. Known for its outstanding programs in science and engineering, NCSU is consistently ranked among the best public universities in America. The school is also home to the largest campus in North Carolina, where it is home to more than 25,000 students. It is renowned for its unique red-brick campus and sports-loving community.
Chapter Profile: Originally founded as the first fraternity on campus in 1895, the Beta Tau chapter was a pioneer in trailblazing a path to allow other social fraternities and sororities to come to campus. It has continued to remain one of the most influential and historic organizations at the University for well over 100 years. Since their founding, over 1,300 alumni have passed through its proud halls and have enjoyed prosperous careers in business, politics, and science. Current members are extremely active on the NC State campus and over 80% of the members are involved in other organizations outside of Sigma Nu. With a current manpower near 70, over 1,700 hours of community service last year alone, and multiple 1st place finishes in philanthropy, community service, and other Greek events to date, Beta Tau has already positioned itself as one of the top fraternities on campus.
On October 17, 2009, Beta Tau earned their charter after being recolonized only 14 months prior… a tremendous task given the outstanding work the chapter has accomplished. This includes winning multiple awards at both the Sigma Nu International level and at the University level, showing a deep commitment to the living values of Sigma Nu. Their success is a testament to the driven leadership and intense dedication of both Beta Tau alumni and undergraduate brothers.
In addition to all the area alumni who devoted their time and effort to rebuilding the Beta Tau Chapter, members would like to thank Howard Pickett (NC State), Scott Walter (Appalachian State), John Manning (NC State), Steve Engelson (NC State), John Cummings (San Diego State), John Castro (Gettysburg), Chris Leithe (Duke), Buz Phillips (NC State), Jason Gipe (NC State), TJ Bell (NC State), Ash Waechter (Tulane), Chris Schaeffer (UNC – Chapel Hill), Ben Davis (Kettering), Brian Taylor (Radford), Matthew Skidmore (NC State), Tom Benton (NC State), Steve Henderson (NC State), Rick Tate (NC State), Dave Mainella (Bradley), Mindy Sopher, the NC State Greek Life staff as well as countless other alumni volunteers, parents and the Sigma Nu staff and High Council for all helping to make the Beta Tau recolonization possible.
