Application for Membership in Sigma Nu Fraternity

I voluntarily seek to become a member Sigma Nu Fraternity (The Legion of Honor) and of my own free will offer myself as a candidate for membership.

I promise to uphold and to live by the principles of Love, Honor and Truth as described by the Creed of Sigma Nu. Further, I have reviewed and I promise to support, uphold and abide by The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. ("The LAW") and the Risk Reduction Policy of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc.

I have reviewed Sigma Nu Fraternity’s “Membership Qualifications and Restrictions” in Article Four, Section 2 of The LAW and I hereby understand Sigma Nu Fraternity defines its use of the word “man”, including such use in Article Four, Section 2 of The LAW, as “individual(s) (1) being born as a biological male and (2) who identify as a male”.

I hereby affirm I understand, and I meet, Sigma Nu Fraternity’s “Membership Qualifications and Restrictions” as stated in Article Four, Section 2 of The LAW, inclusive of the definition of the Fraternity’s use of the word “man”, as stated in the immediately preceding paragraph.

I further understand that The LAW and the Risk Reduction Policy prohibit hazing at any time and that I am honor bound not to participate in such practices and to immediately report any such activity to the General Office of Sigma Nu Fraternity. If for any reason I believe that I am hazed, witness hazing or hear of hazing within Sigma Nu, I understand that I must report such promptly to the General Fraternity. I understand that I can anonymously call the Fraternity's anti-hazing hotline at 1-888-NOT-HAZE (668-4293) to report any such activities. I understand that failure to report such activities could result in denial of initiation and/or suspension or expulsion from Sigma Nu Fraternity. I understand that hazing is any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule. Such activities may include but are not limited to the following: paddling in any form; creation of excessive fatigue; physical and psychological shocks; quests, treasure hunts, scavenger hunts, road trips, lineups, or any other such activities carried on outside or inside the confines of the chapter house; wearing, publicly, apparel which is conspicuous and not normally in good taste; engaging in public stunts and buffoonery; morally degrading or humiliating games and activities; late work sessions which interfere with scholastic activities; and any other activities which are not consistent with fraternal law, ritual or policy or the regulations and policies of the educational institution.

I further understand that Sigma Nu has a Risk Reduction Policy, that a copy is available online, that I have accessed and reviewed that policy, and that I agree to abide by it.

Furthermore, I solemnly promise that I will not join nor agree to join nor give my pledge to any other general college fraternity without first obtaining my official dismissal from Sigma Nu Fraternity.

I understand Sigma Nu Fraternity generally accepts affirmations made by those wishing to become a candidate and member of the Fraternity and that Sigma Nu Fraternity may require additional evidence of any such affirmation as Sigma Nu Fraternity may determine necessary. I agree to provide such evidence upon request of Sigma Nu Fraternity. I understand any false affirmation or refusal to provide evidence of any affirmation, upon request of the Fraternity, may result in loss of Fraternity candidacy and/or membership.
