Sigma Nu Fraternity Emergency Scholarship Fund

Regarding COVID-19

The Sigma Nu Fraternity Emergency Scholarship Fund is a resource for collegiate brothers facing unforeseen financial challenges outside of their control.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, many collegians are facing upheavals that will drastically impact how they live, learn, and work in the coming months. We want you to know that the Sigma Nu Fraternity Emergency Scholarship Fund remains open to all collegiate brothers in good standing (and have at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA) who are facing extraordinary financial situations as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

We will carefully review applications for any brother who applies. We know that circumstances like what we are facing now impact all of us, even collegians who may not ordinarily rely on support from scholarships. Remember that, as is the case with all applicants, we may require additional information or documentation to make a fair evaluation. All funding decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Our office, and the Fraternity as a whole, remains available to support you during these unprecedented times. Please visit our COVID-19 resource page for additional resources.

If you have any questions about the Sigma Nu Fraternity Emergency Scholarship Fund, please reach out to our office at foundation@sigmanu.org

What does the scholarship cover?

For qualified Sigma Nu Fraternity brothers, an Emergency Scholarship Fund disbursement can cover educational expenses (tuition, fees, room and board, books, internet access, etc.) and non-educational expenses (food, utility bills, prescriptions, emergency travel, health insurance, medical bills, etc.) as long as the student has experienced a recent unexpected emergency.

Amounts and Duration

There are no set award amounts as they will vary depending on each applicant’s situation. Sigma Nu Fraternity Emergency Scholarships are only available once in an applicant’s undergraduate academic career.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an undergraduate brother in good standing at a Sigma Nu Fraternity chapter.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7

What constitutes an Emergency?

This scholarship is intended to help collegians facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 crisis. Examples include losing a part-time job, internship, a parent’s change in employment, sudden illness, and/or loss of an immediate family member. Poor financial choices do not constitute an emergency (e.g. credit card debt, poor use of financial aid funding, loans of your need-based aid to friends or family).

How Do I Apply?

Due to the limited funding available, we have closed accepting further applications.  If additional funds become available, we will communicate a reopening of the application process.   If you have further questions about the Sigma Nu Fraternity Emergency Scholarship, the application process, or your unique situation, please contact us at foundation@sigmanu.org.
