With Sigma Nu Fraternity, leadership development is not an extracurricular activity — it is central to the member experience. The LEAD Program, an acronym for Leadership, Ethics, Achievement, and Development, is Sigma Nu’s award-winning ethical leadership development program designed to prepare members to lead with integrity throughout college and beyond.
Founded on the belief that leadership begins with values, the LEAD Program challenges members to grow intellectually, personally, and ethically through hands-on learning experiences, facilitated workshops, group discussions, and real-world application. Rather than simply teaching fraternity operations, LEAD focuses on developing principled men who will positively impact their chapters, campuses, professions, and communities.
Designed as a four-year developmental experience, the program aligns with each member’s stage of collegiate growth and leadership journey. Through interactive education and experiential learning, members gain practical skills in communication, teamwork, ethical decision-making, project management, servant leadership, wellness, diversity, and organizational leadership.
What Makes LEAD Different?
A Principles-Based Approach to Leadership
The LEAD Program is rooted in Sigma Nu’s founding principles of Love, Honor, and Truth. Leadership development is framed not simply around influence or achievement, but around ethics, accountability, and character. Members are challenged to examine their personal values and align their actions with those principles.
LEAD is intentionally interactive. Sessions utilize workshops, simulations, group activities, facilitated discussions, and experiential learning exercises designed to help members apply concepts in meaningful ways.
Development Throughout the College Experience
Unlike one-time leadership seminars, LEAD is a comprehensive developmental model spanning all four undergraduate years. Each phase is tailored to the needs and experiences of members as they progress through college and assume greater leadership responsibilities.
The program regularly incorporates alumni volunteers, guest facilitators, campus professionals, and mentors who share professional experiences and leadership insight while reinforcing Sigma Nu’s lifelong brotherhood.
The Four Phases of LEAD
Phase I — The Way of Honor
Focused on new members and first-year students, Phase I introduces the foundations of Sigma Nu, ethical decision-making, teamwork, leadership basics, project management, time management, and community service.
Phase II — The Life of Love
Second-year members explore personal values, relationship building, chapter leadership, communication, and living with integrity within a community.
Phase III — The Light of Truth
As upperclassmen and emerging leaders, members focus on advanced leadership concepts, organizational effectiveness, mentoring younger members, and personal accountability.
Phase IV — Preparing for Life Beyond College
Designed for graduating seniors, Phase IV emphasizes servant leadership, career preparation, transition to alumni life, and applying Sigma Nu values in professional and personal environments after graduation.
All-Chapter LEAD Education
In addition to individual development phases, Sigma Nu chapters participate in ongoing all-chapter educational programming focused on wellness, diversity, campus involvement, risk reduction, service, and chapter operations. These programs help foster healthy, accountable, and values-driven chapter environments.
