Robert L. Marchman III Memorial Flag Pavilion
The Robert L. Marchman III Memorial Flag Pavilion is a place of remembrance honoring the service and sacrifice of Sigma Nu veterans from the United States and Canada. Dedicated in 2004 on the grounds of the Fraternity’s Headquarters in Lexington, Virginia, it serves as a meaningful destination for reflection and remembrance.
Located along the Pathway of Honor, the pavilion connects the two phases of the pathway and welcomes visitors as they make their pilgrimage to Sigma Nu’s Headquarters. The Pathway itself is divided into two sections: one recognizing Sigma Nu veterans—organized by branch of military service—and another recognizing alumni, undergraduate chapters, and other contributors who have supported the memorial. Through engraved commemorative bricks, brothers, families, and friends can permanently honor Sigma Nu veterans and active-duty service members.
Sigma Nu War Memorial
In 2013, the pavilion was renamed the Robert L. Marchman III Memorial Flag Pavilion in honor of Past Regent Robert L. Marchman III (Emory), a veteran whose vision and leadership were instrumental in bringing the project to life.
The pavilion was expanded in 2019 with the addition of the Sigma Nu War Memorial, which honors the more than 600 brothers who gave their lives in military service. Featuring memorial walls, engraved bricks organized by conflict, and a quiet space for reflection, the memorial ensures their sacrifice and legacy remain an enduring part of the Fraternity’s history. Together, the pavilion and War Memorial stand as lasting tributes to Sigma Nu’s tradition of service, patriotism, and selfless leadership.
