The Sigma Nu Educational Foundation Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Foundation’s efforts to secure and steward the resources that support Sigma Nu’s educational mission. The Board is composed of Alumni Directors, one Young Alumnus Director (under age 30), and two Collegiate Advisors. All Directors serve as voting members and work together to advance the Foundation’s long-term success.

Alumni Directors serve one or two three-year terms. The Young Alumnus Director serves a two-year term, and Collegiate Avisors are appointed annually. New Directors are nominated by the Board’s Governance Committee.

Whether you are an experienced alumnus, a recent graduate, or a collegiate brother, serving on the Board offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of Sigma Nu while gaining valuable nonprofit governance and leadership experience.

Alumni Director

Alumni Directors provide strategic leadership for the Foundation and help ensure its long-term financial strength. Directors participate in Board meetings, serve on committees, contribute to fundraising initiatives, and represent the Foundation among alumni and donors.

Qualifications

• Sigma Nu alumnus in good standing
• Demonstrated leadership and commitment to Sigma Nu
• Interest in philanthropy, nonprofit governance, and strategic planning

Term

• Three-year term, renewable once

Young Alumnus Director

The Young Alumnus Director represents the perspective of Sigma Nu alumni under the age of 30 and helps the Foundation strengthen engagement among recent graduates. The position offers meaningful board-level leadership experience while helping shape the Foundation’s future.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all Board and committee meetings
• Represent the interests of young alumni
• Assist with fundraising and alumni engagement initiatives
• Serve as a voting member of the Board

Expectations

• Two-year term
• Attend semiannual Board meetings (typically January and June)
• Cover personal travel expenses
• Contribute or raise at least $300 annually in support of the Foundation

Collegiate Advisor

Collegiate Advisors represent the undergraduate membership on the Foundation Board while gaining firsthand experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and governance. They serve alongside alumni Directors as non-voting members of the board and provide valuable insight into the collegiate experience.

Responsibilities

• Participate in Board and committee meetings
• Represent the interests of Sigma Nu’s undergraduate members
• Assist with donor engagement and fundraising initiatives

Expectations

• One-year term
• Attend two in-person Board meetings annually (typically January and June)
• Participate in committee and Executive Committee conference calls
• Attempt to raise $2,500 to offset meeting expenses (raising the full amount is encouraged but not required)

Applications for Collegiate Advisor are distributed at the end of each year alongside Collegiate Advisor to the High Council applications, with selections made in early January.

Black & Gold Society Ambassadors are alumni volunteers who help strengthen Sigma Nu by encouraging fellow brothers to join the Black & Gold Society, the Educational Foundation’s leadership annual giving society. Through personal outreach, Ambassadors expand the Foundation’s network of supporters and help provide the resources that sustain Sigma Nu’s leadership programs and educational initiatives.

Why It Matters

Leadership annual gifts are the Foundation’s most reliable source of support, providing the resources needed to protect, strengthen, and advance Sigma Nu. While many peer fraternities have hundreds more leadership-level donors, Sigma Nu has significant opportunity to grow. Black & Gold Society Ambassadors play a vital role in helping the Foundation reach more alumni and build a stronger culture of philanthropy.

Responsibilities

Serving as a Black & Gold Society Ambassador requires only a modest time commitment each year. Ambassadors:

• Identify 10–15 alumni from their chapter or network who may be interested in joining the Black & Gold Society.
• Personally connect with those alumni during the Foundation’s primary fundraising periods in the fall and spring.
• Share their own Sigma Nu experience, communicate the Foundation’s mission, and encourage leadership annual gifts of $1,000 or more.

Training and Resources

Every Ambassador receives onboarding and ongoing support from the Educational Foundation, including:

• Online orientation
• Sample emails and outreach materials
• Talking points and giving resources
• Staff support throughout the year

Black & Gold Society Ambassadors are alumni who:

• Are passionate about Sigma Nu and its future.
• Believe in the mission of the Educational Foundation.
• Enjoy connecting with fellow brothers.
• Want to inspire others to invest in the future of the Fraternity.

Day of Giving Ambassadors are alumni volunteers who serve as representatives for their chapter during Sigma Nu’s annual Day of Giving each October. By encouraging fellow brothers to participate through personal outreach and chapter communications, Ambassadors help build support for the Educational Foundation and the leadership programs that shape future generations of Sigma Nu men.

Why It Matters

Held each October during the month of Sigma Nu’s founding, the Day of Giving unites brothers across the Legion of Honor in support of the Educational Foundation’s Fund for Excellence. Gifts to the Fund provide critical support for initiatives including:

• LEAD, Sigma Nu’s four-year, award-winning leadership development program
• College of Chapters
• Sigma Nu Institute
• Lexington Leadership Institute
• Mental Health Programs and Initiatives, such as the Behind Happy Faces curriculum
• Preservation of Sigma Nu Headquarters

1869 Club Ambassadors are collegiate brothers who encourage their fellow collegiate brothers to support the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation by joining the 1869 Club.

Responsibilities

As an 1869 Club Ambassador, you will:

• Encourage brothers to become members of the 1869 Club by making a gift of $18.69 or more.
• Share how Educational Foundation support benefits your chapter and collegiate brothers nationwide.
• Help build a lasting culture of philanthropy and brotherhood within Sigma Nu.

The 1869 Club is Sigma Nu’s collegiate giving society. Every gift helps fund leadership development, educational programming, chapter support, mental health initiatives, and other resources that strengthen the Sigma Nu experience for the 10,000 collegiate brothers across the country.
