Founded in 1869 at Virginia Military Institute, Sigma Nu was established in direct opposition to hazing and unethical behavior that existed on college campuses at the time. More than 150 years later, those founding principles continue to guide the Fraternity and shape the experience of our members. Sigma Nu challenges young men to lead with integrity, serve their communities, and hold themselves accountable to high standards of conduct and achievement.
What sets Sigma Nu apart is our commitment to intentional member development. Through our nationally recognized LEAD Program — which stands for Leadership, Ethics, Achievement, and Development — members participate in a four-year educational experience designed to strengthen leadership abilities, communication skills, teamwork, ethical decision-making, and personal responsibility. Sigma Nu provides a structured framework that helps members grow academically, professionally, and personally throughout their college years and beyond.
