By opting in to or using a Text Message Service from Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc., you accept these Terms of Use.
This agreement is between you and Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. or one of its affiliates. All references to “Sigma Nu,” “we,” “our,” or “us” refer to Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc., located at 9 North Lewis Street, P.O. Box 1869, Lexington, VA 24450.
Definitions
“Opting In,” “Opt In,” and “Opt-In” mean requesting, joining, agreeing to, enrolling in, signing up for, acknowledging, responding to, or otherwise consenting to receive one or more text messages.
“Text Message Service” means any arrangement in which we send one or more messages addressed to your mobile phone number, including text messages (SMS, MMS, or successor protocols or technologies).
Program Description
This Text Message Service is for conversational, person-to-person communication between you and Sigma Nu Headquarters staff. Messages are sent by staff members from their individual numbers. You can expect messages such as:
- appointment and meeting reminders;
- account and registration notifications, including Sigma Nu Portal account and verification messages;
- candidate registration and initiation reminders;
- event registration confirmations and reminders;
- dues, fee, and payment reminders;
- conversations regarding volunteer and officer responsibilities; and
- replies to questions you send us.
How to Opt In
You may opt in to the Text Message Service by:
- checking the text messaging consent box when you create or update your Sigma Nu Portal account;
- checking the consent box on an event registration or other Sigma Nu form; or
- texting us first, or replying to a message from a Sigma Nu Headquarters staff member.
Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of membership or of purchasing any goods or services from Sigma Nu.
You must be at least 13 years old to opt in, and you must be the subscriber of the mobile number you provide or have the subscriber’s permission to enroll it.
Consent to Text Messaging
By consenting to receive text messages from us, you agree to these SMS Terms of Use, as well as our general Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, each incorporated here by reference.
E-SIGN Disclosure
By agreeing to receive text messages, you also consent to the use of an electronic record to document your agreement. You may withdraw your consent to the use of the electronic record by replying STOP.
Message Frequency
Message frequency varies. You will receive messages based on how you use our services and on the registrations, roles, and events associated with your record. We may send an initial message describing the service when you opt in.
Costs
We do not charge you for messages sent or received through this service. Message and data rates may apply. Depending on your plan, your wireless carrier or other applicable provider may charge you for messages you send or receive.

For help with the Text Message Service, reply HELP to any message, email headquarters@sigmanu.org, or call (540) 463-1869.
Opting Out
If you no longer wish to receive text messages, reply to any message with STOP, QUIT, END, REVOKE, OPT OUT, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE. We may send a confirmation of your opt-out by text message.
Because some Sigma Nu messaging is conversational and originates from individual Headquarters staff numbers, an opt-out request applies to the number you replied to. You may continue to receive messages from other Sigma Nu numbers, and you may opt out of those the same way. You may also opt out of all Sigma Nu text messaging by updating your communication preferences in the Sigma Nu Portal or by emailing headquarters@sigmanu.org.
Carriers
Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery is subject to effective transmission by your carrier and is not guaranteed.
Text Message Service Privacy
We respect your privacy. We use the information you provide through this service only to transmit your mobile messages and respond to you. This may include sharing information with platform providers, telecommunications carriers, and other vendors who assist us in delivering messages. Mobile opt-in information will not be shared with third parties.
WE DO NOT SELL, RENT, LOAN, TRADE, LEASE, OR OTHERWISE TRANSFER FOR PROFIT ANY PHONE NUMBERS OR CUSTOMER INFORMATION COLLECTED THROUGH THE SERVICE TO ANY THIRD PARTY.
We reserve the right to disclose information as necessary to satisfy any law, regulation, or governmental request, to avoid liability, or to protect our rights or property.
This Text Message Service privacy statement applies to your use of the Text Message Service and is not intended to modify our general Privacy Policy, which governs the relationship between you and Sigma Nu in other contexts.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these SMS Terms of Use from time to time. Changes take effect when posted to this page, and the “Last updated” date above will be revised.
