In early May, the Zeta Psi Chapter at Lamar University celebrated a remarkable milestone with the 45th Annual Carey Dees Memorial Sigma Nu Scramble, continuing one of the chapter’s longest-standing traditions. Originally established in the 1980s through the vision of alumnus Carey Dees, the tournament was revived in the early 1990s before transitioning to the leadership of the Zeta Psi Alumni Chapter. Following Brother Dees’ passing in 1995, the event was renamed in his honor, preserving his legacy for generations of Sigma Nu brothers. Held each year in the Beaumont area, the tournament regularly brings together 30 to 40 alumni and collegiate members, with brothers from Sigma Nu chapters across the country joining the tradition. The event has endured through every challenge, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and continues to strengthen both brotherhood and chapter support. This year’s tournament raised several thousand dollars through tee box sponsorships to benefit Zeta Psi Chapter, while undergraduate members hosted a barbecue lunch that provided alumni, collegians, and guests an opportunity to reconnect. Thanks to the dedication of longtime organizer Brother David Bruegger and the many volunteers who have helped lead the event over the decades, the Carey Dees Memorial Sigma Nu Scramble remains a lasting testament to lifelong brotherhood and alumni engagement.

In February, the Zeta Psi Chapter at Lamar University partnered with the campus chapter of Circle K International for a day of service at the Humane Society of Southeast Texas. Brothers volunteered their time providing care, attention, and enrichment for animals awaiting adoption.

In honor of Veterans Day, brothers of the Zeta Psi Chapter at Lamar University dedicated their time to a meaningful act of remembrance and service. The men visited Hooks Cemetery, where they planted flags on the graves of military veterans laid to rest there. Through this solemn tribute, the brothers paid respect to those who served our nation while demonstrating the chapter’s enduring commitment to honoring our veterans and giving back to their community.
