The Theta Lambda Chapter at Eastern Washington University has been awarded a $1,000 Heritage Grant from Spokane Preservation Advocates to support the restoration of the chapter’s historic fraternity house in Cheney. The grant will help fund interior restoration projects that preserve the character of the 1897 residence, one of the oldest buildings on Eastern Washington University’s Greek Row. Planned improvements include historically inspired trim work, crown molding, and other architectural details that reflect the home’s original Victorian-era design. “We are honored that Spokane Preservation Advocates chose to support this project,” said alumnus Ed Niblock. “This grant helps us continue preserving an important piece of Cheney and EWU history for future generations.” The award highlights the chapter’s commitment to preserving its historic home and ensuring that this important landmark continues to serve future generations of Sigma Nu brothers and the Eastern Washington University community.

In April, the Theta Lambda Chapter at Eastern Washington University hosted a service work week, dedicating their time and effort to serving communities throughout the Cheney and Spokane areas. Brothers partnered with Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, Spokane Parks and Recreation, and The Salvation Army to support local service projects and community improvement efforts.

Throughout the fall semester, the Theta Lambda Chapter at Eastern Washington University participated in community service projects aimed at addressing food insecurity in the local community. Among the projects the chapter participated in was working with Our Place Spokane, a community outreach organization working to provide food access to people in need.

In early October, brothers of the Theta Lambda Chapter at Eastern Washington University partnered once again with Second Harvest INW for a day of service. Together, they packed more than 4,400 meals for local children to take home after school. The experience was both meaningful and rewarding, giving the brothers an opportunity to strengthen their bond while making a tangible impact in the fight against hunger in their community.

The Sigma Nu “Castle,” located at 220 College Avenue in Cheney, Washington, and home of the Fraternity’s Theta Lambda Chapter at Eastern Washington University, has been officially added to the Cheney Historic Register. Built around 1897 and purchased by Sigma Nu in 1994, the Castle stands as a cherished landmark, reflecting more than a century of community and campus history. Originally a Victorian-style family home owned by Hugh and Bessie Mills, the property was later converted into apartments before becoming Sigma Nu’s chapter house. Today, it remains a defining feature of EWU’s Greek Row and retains much of its original architectural charm.
