In April, the Alabama Interfraternity Council partnered with Theta Chapter at the University of Alabama and the John Michael Pierce Foundation to recognize Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month and help educate others about the importance of early detection. As part of a video awareness campaign, the IFC and Theta Chapter honored the life and legacy of Brother John Michael Pierce (pictured center), who passed away from esophageal cancer just two years after graduating from Alabama. Doctors later believed the disease may have begun during his junior year, with symptoms that initially appeared to be nothing more than persistent heartburn. The video also features Brother Sam Harvey, a fellow Theta Chapter alumnus and close friend of John Michael, who encourages viewers to learn the warning signs of esophageal cancer and seek medical attention if they or someone they know experiences persistent symptoms. The Fraternity proudly congratulates Theta Chapter Commander Gaines Johnson and Brothers Jacob Bailey, Jack Harris, and Jacques Broussard on their selection to the 113th class of Jason’s Senior Men’s Honorary at the University of Alabama. Each year, just 40 men are inducted into this prestigious honorary, recognizing the most influential rising seniors on campus. Selections are based on a rigorous evaluation of scholarship, leadership, character, and campus involvement. This honor reflects not only the individual achievements of these brothers, but also the strong leadership presence of Theta Chapter within the campus community.

Theta Chapter at the University of Alabama demonstrated the power of brotherhood and service on Saturday, October 18, 2025, by hosting #WinBigforHoli, a charity fundraiser benefiting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the American Cancer Society. Held ahead of Alabama’s football matchup against Tennessee, the gameday event featured live music and button sales, drawing strong support from the campus and local community. The fundraiser was held in honor of Holli Hoelscher Simon, a cherished friend of collegiate chapter brother Taylor Craig and his family, and carried special meaning for all involved. Through the brothers’ efforts—and with help spreading the word from former Alabama quarterback and two-time national champion AJ McCarron—the event raised more than $20,500 for breast cancer research, education, and support services.

Theta Chapter brothers Luke Jordan (pictured center) and David Brett (pictured far right) and their band, Warriors Bend, are winners of the 2025 Battle of the Bands at the University of Alabama and the first recipients of the new Joe Espy Trophy. The one-day event, held on October 11 and hosted by the Student Government Association along with the Alabama Panhellenic Association and the Interfraternity Council, raised funds for the Joe Espy Needs-Based Scholarship, created to support students facing unforeseen financial hardship.

Sigma Nu alumni continue to serve their communities in leadership roles across Alabama. Brother Spiro Cheriogotis, an alumnus of the Theta Chapter and former chapter Treasurer, was recently elected Mayor of Mobile. He joins fellow brothers Mark Saliba (Alabama), Mayor of Dothan, and Robert Craft (Auburn), Mayor of Gulf Shores, in mayoral leadership across the state.
