Summer Recommended Reading

Bookshelf

Following up on the last issue’s book recommendations we went back and asked for a few more to add to your summer reading list.

Recommended by: Vice Regent Maury Gaston (Auburn)

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

"This 1957 classic outlines the philosopher’s theory of Individualism in a compelling and thrilling novel involving romance, risk, and dramatic suspense. Captains of industry, government, and politics compete and interact with one another as the world teeters on the brink. The parallels between this and our current climate will startle you."

Recommended by: Regent-Elect John Hearn (Georgia)

The Outward Mindset by The Arbinger Institute

"Focusing first on others before yourself, whether in business or in your personal life, will create true success and lasting relationships."

Recommended by: Sigma Nu Educational Foundation Collegiate Board Member Clyde Yelverton (Alabama)

Originals by Adam Grant

"This book focuses on the importance of being original in your ideas. It goes over multiple examples of well-known individuals failing multiple times with original ideas before ultimately becoming successful. It helped me start thinking more with an open mind in everything I do."

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck

"Dweck’s work focuses on having a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. For example, “I was born this way, I always will be this way.” versus “These are my current circumstances, now I will find a way to improve it.” mindsets. Definitely some good takeaways in this book."
