Additions to the Staff Team

The Fraternity is pleased to announce that several exceptional individuals have joined the Headquarters staff team this year.

Benjamin Astrum (Virginia Wesleyan), Leadership Consultant

Benjamin joined the General Fraternity staff in June 2020. He graduated from Virginia Wesleyan University in May 2019 with a degree in political science and economics. He also has a certificate in international organizations and diplomacy.

During his time in the Iota Beta chapter, Benjamin served as Treasurer, Sentinel, and Public Relations Chairman, and served on multiple committees. Outside of Sigma Nu, he served as Vice President of Communications and Programming for IFC, Greek Week Director, Head Delegate for Model UN, Greek Life Representative for SGA, Resident Assistant, and was a member of the tennis team.

Benjamin was born in Walnut Creek, California, and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Jacksonville, Florida. After his time on staff, he plans to work as a paralegal and explore his interest in the legal field.

Ryan Ewing (Drury), Leadership Consultant

Ryan joined the General Fraternity staff in June 2020. He graduated from Drury University in May 2020 with a degree in ACS biochemistry and a minor in physics.

As a member of the Epsilon Beta Chapter, Ryan served as Commander, Lt. Commander, and IFC Sr. Vice President. Outside of Sigma Nu, he was the President of both the Honors Student Association and Society of Physics Students for two terms, and an Orientation Leader. In taking up these positions, Ryan successfully developed and implemented positive changes within the student body by being a role model for students.

Ryan is originally from Garland, Texas, a suburb in the Dallas area. He enjoys spending his free time playing video games, listening to music, and experiencing all that life has to offer.

Michael Lay (Arkansas-Fort Smith), Leadership Consultant

Michael joined the General Fraternity staff in June 2020. He graduated from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in May 2020 with a degree in media communications and a minor in speech.

During his time in the Nu Alpha Chapter, he served as Lt. Commander, Chaplain, LEAD Chairman, and Community Service and Philanthropy Chairman, as well as serving on numerous committees. He also served on the IFC for three years, including a term as Vice Chairman. Outside of the fraternity, he was heavily involved in Student Government.

Michael is originally from Pottsville, Arkansas. In his free time, he loves fishing, watching sports, and anything that has to do with the water – boating, floating, and the like.

Hayden Pilcher (Northwestern State), Leadership Consultant

Hayden joined the General Fraternity staff in June 2020. He graduated from Northwestern State University in May 2020 with a degree in business administration.

During his time in the Mu Rho chapter at NSU, Hayden served as Lt. Commander, Recorder, and Recruitment Chairman. On-campus, Hayden served as a Freshman Orientation Staff Leader and as a member of the Student Government Association. Hayden was also named a member of the 2018 Homecoming Court in his junior year.

Hayden was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, and enjoys playing sports with friends, working out, and making music. He is a diehard Dallas Cowboys, LSU Tigers, and LeBron James fan. Following his time on staff, Hayden plans to move to Dallas to start a career in business.

Departures from the Staff Team

Gabriel Castro 

Expansion and Recruitment Consultant Gabriel Castro concluded his two-year tenure with the General Fraternity staff in June of 2020.

During his time on staff, Gabe served as a Leadership Consultant consulting the Northeast Region for one year before transitioning to his role with Expansion and Recruitment. As an Expansion and Recruitment Consultant, Gabe oversaw the Fraternity’s expansion project at Florida Atlantic University.

Joe Thomas

Financial Consultant Joe Thomas concluded his three -year tenure with the General Fraternity staff in June of 2020.

During his time on staff, Joe served as a Leadership Consultant in the Midwest Region for one year before transitioning to his role as the Fraternity’s Financial Consultant. As a Financial Consultant, Joe managed the billings and collections process and assisting chapters with membership reporting and payment plans. He also continued to consult a select number of chapters.
