SNEF Scholarships Recipients
Updates from Lexington
The following seven collegians were recipients this year of funds from several national scholarships offered by the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation.
The Founders General Scholarship
This scholarship promotes the ideals of Sigma Nu by providing financial support for members of the Fraternity who best embody the founding principles of Love, Honor, and Truth in their home communities. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher, be in good standing with the Fraternity, and exhibit leadership qualities through extracurricular involvement.
Logan Whelan (Arkansas)
Logan Whelan (Arkansas)
Logan is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and currently a junior at the University of Arkansas, majoring in finance and marketing. Logan has served in the Gamma Upsilon Chapter as Commander, Lt. Commander and Recorder.
He holds a 3.944 GPA and is a member of the Sam M. Walton College of Business Honors Program.
“Sigma Nu has made my college experience one that I will always remember,” Logan says. “The Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Nu has helped me develop as a leader, build deep friendships, and grow as a man.”
In his free time, Logan enjoys hiking, reading, golfing and being around his friends.
Carson Mulligan (Oklahoma State)
Carson Mulligan (Oklahoma State)
Carson is a native of Norman, Oklahoma, and currently a junior at Oklahoma State University, studying economics and Chinese. In the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter, Carson has served as candidate class president, judiciary board member, and alumni relations chairman.
Currently in Shanghai at Fudan University’s intensive Chinese Language program for the semester, Carson plans to use Chinese in both business and diplomacy in the future. He has completed internships at the State Department’s White House Liaison Office in Washington, D.C., and Morgan Stanley’s Private Wealth Management office in Los Angeles.
Carson, who currently holds a 4.0 GPA, will work as a Summer Investment Banking Analyst at Seaport Global Securities in Fort Worth, Texas, this summer.
Christian Schuster (Oregon State)

Christian is a native of Bend, Oregon, and currently a junior at Oregon State University, majoring in economics and political science. Christian has served the Delta Tau Colony as Commander, Lt. Commander and House Manager. On campus, Christian serves as a Student Senator and as the chairman of the Senate Committee for Oversight and Ethics.
For 12 years Christian competed around the western United States in skiing and was named an All-American Athlete after taking Oregon State University to the National Championships in 2014.
Christian, who holds a 3.28 GPA, will attend Naval Officer Candidate School after graduation to begin his service in the armed forces. Following his service he plans to pursue a career in law.
According to Christian, “The Founders Scholarship, provided by the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation, has provided me with a stepping stone to completing my education and becoming the man my parents have always wanted me to be.”
Oakley Brothers Scholarship
The Oakley Brothers Scholarship promotes the academic achievements and ethical leadership qualities of members. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be in good standing with the Fraternity, and exhibit leadership qualities through extracurricular involvement. Preference is given to candidates and initiates of Theta Chapter (Alabama) who are enrolled as full-time students.
Andre (Drew) Gauthier (Alabama)
Andrew (Drew) Gauthier (Alabama)
Drew is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a rising senior at the University of Alabama, majoring in finance with specializations in value investing and investment management. Drew currently serves Theta Chapter as Treasurer and has also served as parents’ weekend chairman and member of both the finance and LEAD committees. Along with his involvement with the chapter, he represents Sigma Nu as a member of the academic committee for Alabama’s Interfraternity Council.
Drew, who currently holds a 3.85 GPA, will be interning in Nashville this summer in investment banking, and he
hopes to make a career in the ever-changing financial services world. Drew enjoys watching Alabama football, playing golf, and spending time with friends.
George McMillan (Alabama)
George McMillan (Alabama)
George is a native of Talladega, Alabama, and a senior at the University of Alabama, majoring in economics and finance. George has served Theta Chapter as Treasurer, Scholarship Chairman, and on several chapter committees. Within the campus community, he has served as chairman of the IFC Academic Committee and held multiple leadership positions in student government. George’s campus involvement also includes membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Order of Omega, and the Honors College.
George has earned a 3.79 undergraduate GPA while also pursuing a Master of Arts in economics through Alabama’s University Scholars Program. After graduation, George plans to further his education by attending law school.
Ian Ross (Alabama)
A native of Homewood, Alabama, Ian is a junior at the University of Alabama majoring in English and political science with the Blount Undergraduate Initiative Minor. Ian is a member of the University of Alabama Honors College and the Honors English Program. In his chapter Ian serves on the Scholarship Committee. He is also the Deputy Attorney General for the University of Alabama’s Student Government Association and a writing instructor for the University of Alabama Writing Center.
Ian, who holds a 3.815 GPA, is planning to pursue law school following graduation for either environmental or criminal law. He is considering environmental or criminal law. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, reading, camping, fly fishing and rock climbing.
International Student Scholarship
The International Student Scholarship promotes individual academic achievement for nonresident initiates or candidates of the Fraternity. Recipients must be nonresident students studying on a U.S. student visa, in good standing with the Fraternity, and enrolled as full-time students.
Quan Minh Nguyen (DePauw)
Quan Minh Nguyen (DePauw)
Quan is a native of Vietnam and a student at DePauw University, majoring in computer science and mathematics. Quan joined the Beta Beta Chapter last semester and is currently serving as recorder, public relations manager, and the chapter’s student government representative.
“Being a member of Sigma Nu has been an immensely refreshing and rewarding experience,” Quan says. “I have gained access to numerous opportunities for service and leadership experiences as well as academic and social support. I have also gained a professional network all the while finding myself a new family among my brothers.”
Quan, who currently holds a 3.84 GPA, won 2nd place in Vietnam’s National Mathematics Olympiad and is studying to be a data analyst.
Sigma Nu Educational Foundation Scholarships
These national scholarships are funded from generous donations by alumni and collegians across the world.
A Scholarship Selection Committee is appointed by the SNEF Board of Directors to make determinations with respect to individuals who should receive scholarships and the amounts of such scholarships. In this regard, the Scholarship Selection Committee considers objective and nondiscriminatory criteria in making scholarship awards. Such criteria may include (but is not limited to) prior academic performance, test scores, career goals, and recommendations from faculty and others.

Interested in applying for these national scholarships next year? All scholarship applications are due by November 30 every year, and applications can be found at www.sigmanu.org/educational-foundation.
Chapter Scholarship Accounts
In addition to the three national scholarships offered, many chapters have established Chapter Scholarship Accounts through the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation to assist the academic achievements of members.
