Lead Chairman


Congratulations on being elected LEAD Chairman for your chapter!

As LEAD Chairman, your role is to work with your chapter's LEAD Committee to run the LEAD Program. Properly run, the LEAD Program can have an incredible impact on your chapter and members.

There have been many changes to the LEAD Program recently. The program continues to be more interactive, technologically advanced, inclusive of more experiential learning activities and easier to facilitate. In addition, Phases I-IV of the program have been redesigned to include online and facilitated components.

As LEAD Chairman, you are the key person for the program in your chapter. With your hard work and dedication, the program and your chapter will continue to grow and succeed. And, in the process, you'll know that you had a hand in making your chapter successful and giving your members a great Sigma Nu experience.

Position Description

Your responsibilities as LEAD Chairman are: 

    • General
      • Attend all chapter meetings.
      • Participate in appropriate phase of LEAD.
    • Specific to Office
      • Oversee the LEAD Program in the chapter.
      • Organize and run the LEAD Committee
      • Phase I – Marshal
      • Phase II – LEAD Chairman
      • Phase III – LEAD Advisor/Coach
      • Phase IV – At-large Committee Member or LEAD Advisor
      • All-Chapter – Commander
      • The individuals noted above have the general responsibility for managing each respective phase of the LEAD Program. In this capacity, they should:
      • Coordinate with the LEAD Chairman and/or LEAD Advisor to plan for each session, recruit facilitators and set time schedules and locations.
      • Ensure the completion of the online portion of each session by phase participants in advance of the facilitated sessions for their respective phase.
      • Ensure the attendance of phase participants at all facilitated sessions for their respective phase.
      • Provide any necessary resources and materials for the facilitated sessions (flipcharts, markers, special resources from Headquarters for specific sessions, additional handouts, etc.)
      • The LEAD Committee
      • The LEAD Committee provides assistance to the phase managers. In this role, they should:
        • Ensure needed materials and correspondence from Headquarters are available and in place.
        • Ensure the meeting room is available, and ready, and all equipment and instructional aides are in place.
        • Remind participants to complete the online portion prior to attending the facilitated portion of each session.
        • Ensure the meeting is opened and closed appropriately (quiet reflection, prayer, or the Creed).
        • Assist in recruiting guest facilitators for sessions.
        • Follow up with thank you notes and appropriate gifts to guest facilitators.
      • Meet with the LEAD Committee once a week during the semester to review plans and details for LEAD sessions. This includes setting a location for the LEAD sessions and recruiting guest facilitators.
      • Along with LEAD Committee members, recruit guest facilitators for LEAD sessions.
      • Give a report on LEAD at chapter each week. The report should include the LEAD sessions for the week and what participants will learn at the session.
      • Working with the chapter's LEAD Committee
      • Send thank you notes to all facilitators.
      • Order LEAD supplies from Sigma Nu Headquarters.
      • Publicize LEAD in the chapter (posters, e-mail).
      • Ensure attendance of participants for all sessions.
      • Give the LEAD schedule to the chapter's Lt. Commander so that the chapter can plan chapter activities around LEAD sessions.
      • Establish incentives for LEAD participants.
      • Report your chapter's completed LEAD sessions

        • Review any memos regarding the LEAD program that your chapter Commander has received from Headquarters.
        • Review the tips for implementing each phase of LEAD.

To continue to improve the LEAD Program, we need your comments and suggestions. By reporting the LEAD sessions that your chapter completes, you are helping to give us valuable information. Reporting sessions is easy and can be done by completing the interactive form on the website.
