About National Recruitment Day 2008
In support of our undergraduate chapters in their efforts to recruit the future members of our Fraternity, Sigma Nu is pleased to announce National Recruitment Day 2008. With support from the General Fraternity, undergraduate chapter members and Sigma Nu alumni within specific geographic regions will work together to identify college bound, high school seniors and create a venue where those seniors can meet and socialize with Sigma Nu alumni and active members to learn about Sigma Nu as they prepare to begin their college experience.

Graduating High School Seniors
This may or may not be the first, or last, time in your life that you will be recruited for something. Without recruiting top male students like you, fraternities would diminish from the college landscape and limit the diversity so many campuses boast. Fraternities look for students who achieve academic excellence and display exceptional leadership traits. These are only a few of the qualities that keep over 180 Sigma Nu chapters operating across North America.
So, while you’re deciding on a college that is the right fit for you, we ask that you consider Sigma Nu and all we have to offer. We want to help prepare you for life during and after college, and help you excel at becoming a leader among your peers. Sigma Nu looks for outstanding men who want to get involved on campus, gain valuable leadership skills and training, develop themselves personally and professionally, create meaningful and lifelong relationships, and get the most out of their college experience.
Sigma Nu is not a club or committee, it is a lifelong commitment to the ideals of believing in a life of love, walking in the way of honor, and serving in the light of truth. We want you to be a part of the success.
Sigma Nu Background
Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute. Following the Civil War, the south was struggling through economic turmoil, civil strife and social unrest. And, during this period, the practice of hazing was commonplace at VMI. In fact, hazing was so rampant, underclassmen were treated as subservient to upperclassmen. Three men, who believed strongly in the VMI honor code, “I will neither lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those who do,” felt that the code also included respect for individuals no matter what their age, class, or rank. Hazing violated this code. They, therefore, took an oath to form The Legion of Honor, today known as Sigma Nu Fraternity. Sigma Nu is thus the only fraternity in existence founded on the principle of Honor and founded in firm opposition to hazing. Our core principles are Love, Honor and Truth and our commitment to these principles bind us together to this day. These ideals, in addition to our stance against hazing, are what define us as a Fraternity.
