Campus Snapshot: The University of Oregon is located in the beautiful city of Eugene. The university was founded in 1876 and is the second oldest public university in the state. The campus was the backdrop of the 1978 film Animal House, in which the Sigma Nu house, at the time, was used for interior shots. The campus has a large Greek community with over 11% of its 16,000 undergraduates.
Chapter Profile: The Gamma Zeta Chapter was originally founded in 1900 as the first fraternity at the University of Oregon, and the first in the state of Oregon. After closing in 2004, the chapter was recolonized in spring 2009, and since then has consistently worked to bring pride and dedication to everything they have been involved with, including community service, philanthropic events, intramurals, scholarship and brotherhood.
On May 22, 2010, after a year of hard work, the Gamma Zeta chapter was rechartered, initiating 43 knights as founding fathers. The chartering was a very successful event with nearly 250 people in attendance, including Regent Joe Gilman, past Regent Dan Rodriguez, alumni, parents, dates, and Sigma Nu staff.
The Gamma Zeta chapter would like to recognize Annie Carlson, Fraternity and Sorority Advisor. They would also like to give a very special thanks to their alumni and Alumni Advisory Board, parents, Sigma Nu staff, Joe Gilman and the High Council for helping to make the Gamma Zeta rechartering a success.
