Campus Snapshot: Located twelve miles south of Sacramento, the University of California, Davis was initially founded as the University Farm in 1905 and in 1959 became part of the University of California system. Recognized as a prestigious "Public Ivy" school, UCD is consistently ranked among the top 20 best public universities in America. As the second-largest campus in the UC system, Davis is home to more than 25,000 students. It is renowned for its beautiful campus and bike-friendly community, where it boasts the largest bikes-per-capita in the United States.
Chapter Profile: Originally founded as Philo Delphos in 1919, the local fraternity joined the ranks of the Legion of Honor as the Zeta Xi Chapter in 1952. Since then, over 640 alumni have passed through its proud halls and have enjoyed prosperous careers in business, politics, science and music. Current members are extremely active on the UCD campus and nearly all are involved in other organizations outside of Sigma Nu. With a current manpower over 50, the 2nd highest GPA on campus, and multiple 1st place finishes in philanthropy, community service, and other Greek events to date, Zeta Xi is already among the top fraternities on campus.
On May 9, 2009, Zeta Xi earned their charter after being recolonized only 13 months prior, a monumental achievement given that their chapter had been dormant for over 17 years. Their success is a testament to the leadership and dedication of both Zeta Xi alumni and undergraduate brothers.
In addition to all the area alumni who devoted their time and effort to rebuilding the Zeta Xi Chapter, members would like to thank Mike Wheeler (UC Davis), R. Kim Stephenson (UC Davis), Jeff Moore (UC Davis), Dave Hedin (Cal. St. Chico/UC Davis), Brian Woodall (Virginia), Steve Park (Nevada), John Stutz (UC Davis), Paul Schwartz (UC Davis), Brian Keaveney (UC Davis), Marshall Andrews (Fresno State), Mike Lewis (UC Davis), Anthony Torre (UC Santa Barbara), Bill Stanzel (Michigan), as well as countless other alumni volunteers, parents and the Sigma Nu staff and High Council for all helping to make the Zeta Xi recolonization possible.
