As the first nationally recognized Fraternity to charter at Virginia Wesleyan College, the Iota Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1974. Upon closing in 2000, the chapter sat dormant until 2005 when alumni of the chapter worked with students on campus to create the Iota Beta local Fraternity. Their goal was to regain full recognition as a chartered Sigma Nu Chapter. After diligently working for two years as a local Fraternity, the group became the core members of our recolonization efforts in the fall of 2007. Today, the colony is working to re-charter as the Iota Beta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Sigma Nu is committed to its founding principles of Love, Honor and Truth, and has stood in firm opposition to hazing since being founded in 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute. We are looking for outstanding men who want to get involved on campus, gain valuable leadership skills and training, develop themselves personally and professionally, create meaningful and lifelong relationships and get the most out of their collegiate experience.
This is going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a truly outstanding organization and create a legacy of honor. The traditions started here will be known 50 to 100 years from now and will be started by the men who join today.
