Social Planning Resources 

When done right, the social aspect of the Sigma Nu experience can be a great component of one’s membership. With proper planning and execution, chapters can regularly engage in social activities that are fun and safe for both their members and guests. Use the following resources to help plan, and execute, your chapter’s social events.

Event Planning

  • Social Planning Guide – a comprehensive step-by-step guide to properly planning social events.
  • Event Checklist / Special Event Request Form – checklist of items to consider when organizing chapter social events as well as the form to complete and submit to the General Fraternity when seeking an exemption from certain statute(s) of the Risk Reduction Policy and Guidelines.
  • FIPG Third Party Vendor Checklist – summary of the minimum expectations for a third-party vendor that is hired to serve alcohol at a chapter function.
  • BYOB Event Checklist – summary of items to consider in organizing a BYOB event.
  • Security Vendor Checklist – summary of minimum expectations for hiring/using a third-party professional security company to assist with managing a chapter function.
  • Sober Monitor Program – suggested structure, expectations, and responsibilities for event sober monitors.

Policies

  • The Law of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. – the Fraternity’s supreme governing document.
  • Risk Reduction Policy and Guidelines ­– policies and expectations for risk management education, activities with alcohol, and candidate education, among other items.
  • FIPG Guidelines – all chapters are expected to comply with the FIPG Guidelines, in addition to the other applicable Fraternity and IFC/University policies.
  • Trademark and License Policy – policy governing the use of the Fraternity’s insignia. Important to review when considering event themes, party favor, apparel design, or any other uses of the Fraternity’s emblems, logos, Greek letters, or the names Sigma Nu and Sigma Nu Fraternity.
